About Smart Phone Apps

What are smart phone apps?

The word app is short for application. In the smart phone word, an app is a programmed function that can be accessed from a smart phone. In most cases an app does something other than just phone calls. There are possibly a million apps on the market, including but not limited to calculators to weather forecasters, e-books readers to e-mail clients, instant messaging to video chatting, texting to social networking, business functions, recording audio/video, photo capturing/editing, music/video players, and of course video games. When it comes to smart phone apps, the sky is the limit.

In addition to being entertaining and useful, many apps enhance the smart phone user’s experience. Here are some of my favorite smart phone apps and what they do.

Gmail – Access your gmail account without using your smart phone’s web browser.

YouTube – Enjoy over a billion video clips from your smart phone without using it’s web browser.

Angry Birds - A fun, yet challenging touchscreen-based, puzzle oriented, video game. The objective is to propel objects via slingshot in order to shatter cages that angry birds are locked inside of; freeing the birds. Each level of the game presents new obstacles to conquer. Success is achieved through using logic, experimentation and good old fashion luck.

FriendCaster – One of the best facebook clients for smart phones on the market. It offers a very smooth integration of facebook tasks and features for your smart phone.

Google TV Remote – Use your smart phone to manipulate your flat screen TV, Google TV, satellite or cable box with DVR, and A/V receiver to watch recorded shows from your DVR; play Netflix and Hulu Plus programming, navigate YouTube, experience the internet and more.

Springpad – Allows users to create and organize notes that may include audio, texts, video, web links and photos for safekeeping and reference. Additional features like social networking integration are currently being introduced to the platform.

Netflix – Provides complete access to all Netfix movies and television programming. Users must have a Neflix account.

Shazam – Quickly analyzes audible music then sends music data via internet to a database and returns comprehensive song information such as title, artist, album, year recorded, etc… to the user’s smart phone. The user can immediately purchase the MP3 selection online directly from his/her smart phone.

Google Music Beta – Google’s brand new cloud-based music service - Users store and play their own MP3 files via their personal virtual online music collection; freeing up precious storage space.

Movies – Easily and conveniently view movie listing and show times; even purchase tickets using the app.

Google Maps Navigation – State-of-the-art GPS navigation, mapping and direction services powered by Google.

These are but a few of my favorite apps that can be downloaded on IOS and Android devices for FREE. Try these and other apps to see which might help to enhance your lifestyle. Apps are easy to install/uninstalled. Enjoy.
